What is the difference between UX and UI design and web design

Difference between UX and UI design and web design?

Before we go deep into the topic, it is important to understand the meaning of UX and UI. User experience design is defined as the process of enhancing user satisfaction with a product by improving the accessibility, usability, and pleasure provided in the interaction with the product whereas UI designer or User interface design (UI) or user interface engineering can be defined as the design for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on maximizing usability and the user experience. Since we have already studied in details about UX and UI, we can easily distinguish between the two depending upon various factors. We also need to understand about web design as per this topic.
Web design, on the other hand, can be defined as the process of conceptualizing, planning, and building a collection of electronic files that determine the layout, colors, text styles, structure, graphics, images, and use of interactive features that deliver pages to your site visitors. Nowadays web designers are experts in
  • creative conception
  • color theory
  • typography
  • icon development
  • diagrams
  • infographics

Difference between UX and UI designer:

  1. UX design or User Experience Design is the process by which the need of the user is identified whereas UI design means User Interface Design = Visual Design + Interaction Design.
  2. UX or user experience is focused on the user’s journey to solve a problem whereas UI is focused on how a product’s surface look and function.
  3. A UX designer is concerned with all kinds of conceptual aspects of the design process whereas the UI designer is more concerned and focused on the more sensitive and tangible elements.
  4. UI is generally about visual design and about the information design around the screens, whereas UX is about the complete experience, and it may not be even about the screen.
  5. UX is the overall experience a user experience with the product while visiting a website whereas UI is a design the user will actually interact with and see in the website.

Now, as we have gained some knowledge about UI and UX design, we can easily distinguish the two with that of web design. Some of the important differences are listed below:

Since today’s web design is almost equivalent to graphic design, web designers are more often concerned with the look of the site. Graphic Designers/ web designers chooses colors and fonts, as well as arrange elements (such as images and blocks of text) in layouts whereas User Interface (UI) design, pertains to the design of interactive elements, as in digital media, such as on a computer, tablet or smartphone and User experience design (UX) is different from both UI and graphic design as it focuses on the logic and structure behind the elements a user actually see and interact with. UX primarily takes place in two distinct phases: research and validation.
